Welcome to the 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting of the Queensland Hand Surgery Society to be held in beautiful Noosa from 23-25 November 2018 at the Sofitel.
This year we promise another weekend of innovation, scholarship and collegiality. Our international guest this year is Dr David Slutsky from Torrance in California. Dr Slutsky is at the forefront of hand and wrist surgery and besides editing more than 10 textbooks, was the founding editor-in-chief of the Journal of Wrist Surgery. Dr Slutsky has developed several innovative techniques in wrist arthroscopy and this will be an excellent opportunity to pick up some tips and techniques from the master. Dr Slutsky will also talk on various aspects of reconstructive hand surgery. Our regional guest speaker is Professor Graham Gumley of Macquarie University Hospital, Sydney. Prof Gumley has an international background, after completing his specialist training, he worked in the Lahey clinic in Boston for twelve years followed by six years directing the Sihanouk Hospital Center of HOPE, Cambodia. Prof Gumley will share his expertise gained from his varied and challenging clinical work. Our local invited speaker is Dr Paul McEniery, upper limb surgeon and microsurgeon at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.
In addition to the invited presentations, the scientific program will include panel discussions on challenging wrist and hand problems. The meeting is an opportunity for local surgeons and therapists to present scientific papers on their clinical and research work and to debate clinical issues relevant to hand surgeons and therapists. Hand therapists will have dedicated time for a one-on-one with the visiting Professors to discuss therapy techniques used in their respective centres. The meeting is accredited by the Australian Orthopaedic Association and attendees will be awarded CPD hours for the meeting.
